When Is The Best Time To Visit Morocco

Hey fellow travelers! I've been to Morocco three times now, and I'm constantly asked when the best time to visit is. Let me break it down for you based on my experiences.

Spring (March to May): My Personal Favorite

Spring is honestly magical in Morocco. I visited in April last year, and the temperatures were perfect - warm days (around 70-75°F/21-24°C) but not scorching hot. The landscapes are incredibly green, especially in places like the Middle Atlas Mountains, and wildflowers bloom everywhere.

The tourist crowds aren't at their peak yet, so you can explore popular spots like Marrakech's Jemaa el-Fna square without feeling overwhelmed. And those Instagram-worthy photos of the blue city of Chefchaouen? Spring lighting makes them pop like no other time.

Spring Highlights:

Fall (September to November): The Close Second

My second visit was in October, and I'd say fall rivals spring for the best time to visit. The summer heat has subsided, tourists have thinned out, and prices drop a bit. The weather stays warm enough to enjoy the beaches in places like Essaouira if that's your thing.

Markets are bursting with fresh fall harvests - the dates, pomegranates, and oranges are incredible. This is also when the saffron harvest happens in Taliouine if you want to see something special.

Fall Highlights:

Winter (December to February): For the Budget Traveler

Winter gives you the cheapest prices and fewest tourists, which is why I tried it for my third trip in January. Cities like Marrakech and Fez stay mild (around 60°F/15°C during the day), though nights can get quite cold, especially in the desert and mountains.

The Atlas Mountains might get snow, which creates a surreal landscape if you're into photography. Just pack layers - I was surprised by how chilly evenings got even in Marrakech.

Winter Highlights:

Summer (June to August): Hot but Manageable

I haven't visited in summer myself, but friends who have say it gets HOT in the interior cities (Marrakech can hit 100°F/38°C). The coastal areas like Tangier and Essaouira stay more comfortable thanks to ocean breezes.

If you can only travel during summer, head to the coast or the mountains, and plan indoor activities during peak afternoon heat. Early mornings and evenings are best for exploring cities.

Summer Highlights:

When to Avoid

Ramadan dates change each year, and while experiencing Morocco during this holy month can be fascinating, be aware that many restaurants close during daylight hours and some attractions have limited hours. It's still very possible to visit during Ramadan (I overlapped with it for a few days), but it requires more planning.

My Final Take

If you're asking me when to visit Morocco, I'd say April-May or September-October hit the sweet spot of good weather, reasonable prices, and manageable crowds. But honestly, each season offers something unique, and Morocco is worth experiencing in different lights if you can make multiple trips like I did.

Have you been to Morocco? What was your experience with timing? I'd love to hear about it!
